Vegan wellies - ethical and as sustainable as possible

Warm and ethical wellies and vegan too

Yes, our wellies are vegan wellies. Our vegan wellington boots are made from natural rubber that is certified and sustainably sourced. Our vegan wellies also use synthetic based glue too, and they are all hand made.

Natural rubber is better for the environment because it uses fewer fossil fuels compared to synthetic (plastic) wellies.

Sustainable and Ethical production

Sustainable  Our wellies are designed by Simon who tries and tests them on the family farm before they go into full production. Our wellies are also ethically produced – Simon travels over to China to oversee production as often as possible (but not during COVID outbreaks or restrictions on travel). That is why he can check the quality of the workmanship, but also makes sure the wellies are produced by staff who are well treated. It means we know these vegan wellies are not produced in sweatshops.

Packaging IS RECYCLABLE

In 2019 we introduced good quality cardboard boxes for our wellies – with a design that means we can send the wellies out in the post without additional packaging. This picture was our paper mock-up when we were designing the boxes - so next year we will have been 5 years plastic-free.

If you have multi pairs of wellies on order, they are sent out in sturdy paper sacks. And if the boxes are a present/surprise, we always wrap them in plain paper to send them out in the post.

WE GOT RID OF PLASTIC PACKAGING IN FAVOUR OF BOXES - 100% REDUCTION IN THE USE OF PLASTIC

Repurpose your packaging

We also encourage our customers to reuse or repurpose the boxes. Top ways to do this include:

  • Using the boxes as treasure chests.
  • Turning the boxes into boats or even castles
  • Keeping crayons and paper for all those drawings
  • Storing cones and sticks and leaves collected on adventures

Repurpose your wellies

If your kids have outgrown their wellies and they’ve still got life left in them, give them away – or if they’re not suitable for someone else, repurpose them as planters – for herbs, or flowers. They make quirky plant pots.
