Kids outgrow wellies fast, so
second-hand pairs can be in high demand. We know they wear well so are often
used as hand-me-downs. But what do you do when you have outgrown them and don’t
have anyone to hand them down to? Or what if they have worn too much to be
waterproof wellies in the future?
⭐ If your Warm Wellies are in good or great condition
1. Sell Them Locally
- It’s good for your
local economy:
Local parenting groups
School or nursery noticeboards
Local online platforms
Tip: Clean them well, photograph both boots from multiple
angles, and mention our brand, the size, and our product benefits – warm, comfortable,
4mm neoprene lining, good length etc.
2. Donate Them
Charities often welcome children’s footwear in good condition:
Local charity shops
Refugee support centres
Women’s shelters (which often take kids’ items) Church or community outreach programmes
Some nurseries and primary schools also accept spare wellies for outdoor play.
Thank you to Dolly’s Mum who sent us pictures of Dolly handing in her wellies to a charity shop.
⭐ If They're worn out or only partially usable…
3. Recycle through specialist schemes
Our wellies are made from rubber, so curb
side recycling services may not take them. But you still have options:
Shoe recycling bins found at supermarkets (often partnered with
charities)
Shoe banks run by your local council
Terracycle (if available in your area), sometimes accept through partner
schemes
4. Repurpose – here
are a few ideas:
Turn them into planters.
Use them as garden tool storage: Tall wellies can hold trowels, small
rakes, and kids’ garden tools.
Indoor storage for umbrella stands, toy or art
supplies: pens, brushes, Lego!
5.
Craft projects If the rubber is damaged, you can still repurpose sections:
Cut shapes to make garden markers
Use the top rim as a decorative pot holder
Bird
feeders: Cut a
small hole on the side, fill with seeds, and hang from a tree.
Fairy
garden boots:
Fill with moss, small figurines, and tiny plants.
Seasonal decor: Paint them for Halloween
(pumpkin) or Christmas (Santa boot) displays.
6. Kids’ fun projects
Mini boats or puddle toys: Fill with water for backyard play.
Obstacle course props: Use old wellies as markers or stepping
stones in a DIY garden course.
Painting fun: Let kids use wellies as stamps or moulds to
make prints.
8. Upcycling parts
Even if the boots are ripped: Use straps as
plant tie supports or turn in to something like an art structure.
⭐ Reduce Future Waste
Choosing our natural rubber wellies means they’re easier to
recycle and biodegrade faster (we accept the linings are not so good but
can be removed).
