R.A.B.I Beef supper is a welly good success

Guests at the ‘eeh By Gum’ autumn supper hosted by Dodd & Co for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute (R.A.B.I) raised £600. Supper was themed around wellington boots - tying in with their guest speaker from the Warm Welly Company.

The Cumbria Committee themed their supper around wellies, with guests treated to Beef Bourguignonne with a pastry welly, followed by a deconstructed plumb crumble with a welly shortbread biscuit.

Hosted by Dodd & Co in Carlisle for the fourth year, businesses from across the county heard from Simon Wood, owner of The Warm Welly Company. Simon explained how it all began with search for neoprene lined wellies to stop his young children crying over frozen toes at lambing time. It has now become a full-time business.

The Warm Welly Company has pledged £1000 worth of wellies to R.A.B.I and they will be the sponsor of their national ‘Welly Week’ competition in October.

Simon said “We’re delighted to support a rural charity like R.A.B.I and we’re looking forward to #wellyweek to help raise awareness of what they do. Farming can be a very lonely place. There is so much uncertainty about the future of farming that I am sure R.A.B.I will be kept busy.

“This event was a great platform for businesses to network and raise funds for farming families in need. Dodd & Co were perfect hosts and supper was fantastic, with the committee serving up real farmhouse flavours – and the perfectly cut wellingtons were a great success.”

Georgina Lamb, R.A.B.I North West Regional Manager said “We are delighted to be working alongside The Warm Welly Company this year. Their support has been amazing and as Simon is a farmer, he understands and empathises with the challenges farming families face.”

Laura Wilson, Chair of the Cumbria Committee said “We are very grateful to Dodd & CO for being so involved in organizing this event, they are great supporters. We raised £600 from a beef – and wellington supper and are looking forward to other fund-raising events later in the year including carol services in auctions across the county in December.
