FARMERS GUARDIAN November 10 th 2006
Warm Wellies, Childrens Neoprene Wellies
The Warm Welly Company was set up by Simon Wood, a Cumbrian sheep farmer, in response to his sons cries about freezing feet out on the farm. He believes them to be the only childrens wellies containing neoprene (the material used for keeping divers warm) and believes there will be a big market for them.
My four year old, Henry, suffers with cold feet and we have resorted in the past to moon boot type wellies with thick sheepskin lining, but these are quite chunky and hard to run about in.
These (warm wellies) are more like conventional wellies, with a wide enough leg to tuck trousers or overalls into although I would prefer them longer in the leg to help keep trousers tucked in.
Henry liked the look of his test pair (green with brown insets) which were sufficiently bright and funky enough to appear to his worryingly developed fashion sense but not so flashy that they were deemed for girls (the ultimate insult). The grip was reasonable and he said they were comfortable (they stayed on his feet, unlike other boots which have been unceremoniously removed and chucked in the bin in protest). Best of all, his feet stayed super-warm, even while wearing them on a freezing night in front of the bonfire.
Reasonably priced, extra marks for being a farmer led business initiative and highly recommended by Henry, who says they are toasty.
